Today in Island History
1848 After a nightmarish journey, 72 Scots immigrants arrive in Georgetown. They left Glasgow on the Lulan, part of a group of 121 Highlanders bound for Cape Breton and the Island. After smallpox carried off 24 of 186 passengers and crew, the survivors were quarantined at Pictou.
