For close to 50 years, Island filmmaker Brian Pollard has devoted much of his time and attention to the people of Prince Edward Island, documenting both their distant past and their present challenges and concerns.
Brian’s work is broad and inclusive, highlighting Islanders from all walks of life and documenting both the human and natural history of the Island.
Among his many projects are the following films:
The Islanders, a 1974 production of the National Film Board on which Brian served as producer, director, researcher, and both picture and sound editor. Telling the story of PEI’s reluctant entry into Confederation, The Islanders can still be watched at the National Film Board
Island Nature was independently produced for The Island Nature Trust and aired on CBC-TV. Brian served as producer, director and editor for this film about the natural history of PEI.
A Wake For Milton documented a wake for PEI poet Milton Acorn in Toronto, for the National Film Board. Brian served as producer, director and editor on this film. It aired on Bravo and CBC-TV in 1988.
Figure In a Landscape: A Film on the Art of Brian Burke was a 1993 independently-produced biography of PEI artist Brian Burke. Brian was the producer, director, picture and sound editor. The film aired on the CBC, Vision, and Bravo networks.
Spirit World: The Story of the Mi'kmaq was a three-part mini-series released in 2003 and produced by Mi'Kmaq Pictures. It was filmed in both English and French. Brian served as co-producer, director and editor.
And this is just a taste of Brian Pollard’s varied filmography.
