Jane Affleck has a background in the visual arts and English literature and holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies. One area of her doctoral thesis research involved the history of colonization and present-day decolonization movements (in particular, how contemporary Indigenous art can challenge traditional museum representation of Indigenous peoples). Jane has many years of experience working in communications and marketing and in education — a year and a half teaching ESL/EAL to adults and children in Japan, and more than 15 years as a part-time instructor of English, writing, art history, and business courses on PEI and in Quebec, NS, and Ontario. She is also a writer and visual artist, focusing on the more-than-human world in and around Bedeque/Eptek, where she currently lives.
