No one should be forgotten. That appears to be a guiding principle for Clem Gallant.
While doing genealogical research in the parish registers for his most recent publication Scrapbook of St. Augustine’s Parish, Rustico, Gallant noted that only births and marriages had been recorded. So he took it upon himself to compile a list of all known deaths of people from the St. Augustine's Parish community.
Each morning, he gets up at 5:00 am and works for several hours, poring through old newspapers and any other sources of information he can find to determine the dates that people died and the locations where they are buried. He has become an invaluable source of information on the area’s history and stories and is always happy to share the information he has collected over the years.
Gallant is one of those people who is always working on another project. Even before he retired, he was interested in collecting and preserving the stories and heritage of his Acadian ancestry. To date, he has 15 publications to his credit.
His work in Acadian heritage and genealogy has earned him a Heritage Recognition Award.
