What some have called the golden years of St. Dunstan’s University in Charlottetown are handsomely chronicled in Leonard Cusack’s book Caught in A Changing Society.
Interviews with graduates and former faculty members and extensive archival research enabled Cusack to recreate life at the esteemed Catholic university from 1959 to 1969. Cusack takes readers to a place and time in which social norms were changing, students were calling for more personal and academic freedom, and growth in the student body prompted the expansion of the campus. Cusack addressed the creation of the University of Prince Edward Island and the evolution of St. Dunstan’s University into a charitable foundation that has invested $32 million into education, infrastructure, and the diocese.
For the book’s outstanding contribution to Island history, Leonard Cusack is honoured with a Heritage Recognition Award.
