For the past 15 years Angela Douglas-Banks has worked tirelessly at the community, provincial, and interprovincial levels to ensure the preservation of Prince Edward Island’s natural heritage.
Angela’s leadership in the development of the PEI Watershed Alliance, first as a volunteer and later as project manager, has been instrumental in developing and coordinating watershed management projects across the province.
Her work has had an impact on over 90% of the Island, including the province’s two Canadian Heritage Rivers: The Hillsborough and Three Rivers. From 2019 to present, Angela has served as volunteer president of the Hillsborough Area Watershed Co-op, which uses provincial funding from the PEI Watershed Management Fund to care for the Hillsborough Canadian Heritage River.
In addition, she has served on a volunteer basis as chair of the PEI Wildlife Conservation Fund and as an aquatics representative. She has served as a volunteer with the Community Aquatic Monitoring Program; as an honorary research associate at the University of New Brunswick; chaired the PEI Watershed Alliance (PEIWA); and served as director of the Hillsborough River Association.
Her expertise has also been put to use as a project manager with the PEIWA and as Executive Director for the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence Coalition on Sustainability.
Angela was recently hired by the PEI Department of Environment, Energy and Climate Change as the province's Net Zero Coordinator.
Her dedication to the Island’s natural heritage, her experience and her vast knowledge have enabled her to make a significant contribution to the preservation of that heritage.
