Join us for the Harbour Hullabaloo!
Maximum participants: 65
Beaconsfield Carriage House will be the home of the PEI Fibre Festival’s first Harbour Hullabaloo. Just a short 12-minute walk from the Delta hotel, this event will bring you songs, stories, and the heritage food of our Island. Celebrate with the multi-talented Pendergast family.
Shane Pendergast will be your host. Shane is a folksinger from Tracadie Cross, PEI. He learned to play by ear at an early age, immersed in a culture of family kitchen parties. Shane’s connection to Maritime folk music dates back to the efforts of his great-grandparents, preservers of folklore in PEI. Shane is carrying the torch forward with his own songs of Maritime lore and life experiences. Shane is known as an old-school troubadour, and “might just become the East Coast’s de facto King of Folk.” (The East). His 2021 album “Second Wind” won Contemporary Roots Album of the Year at the Music PEI Awards. Check him out at: https://www.shanependergast.com/.
Robert Pendergast was cut from the Island clay in the 1970s, born into a family filled with storytelling, music, and with a healthy love of food. Growing up in Saint Louis, PEI, he was deep-rooted in cultural and musical traditions. One of six children, Robert learned early on the charms of the kitchen and the importance of breaking bread with others. His mixed Irish and Acadian heritage also meant he was exposed to a variety of cooking styles from an early age.
According to Robert, Islanders have a unique relationship with food that sets it apart.
There’s a generosity at the local level. People want to share things. They don’t want to just sell it to you, but they want to sit down and enjoy it with you too.
Robert spent several years studying cooking and working in kitchens in Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto, as well as several venues in Poland, France, and The Netherlands. Though he loved the experience, his love of the Island drew him back a decade ago. He has been serving up unique dining experiences ever since.
Included in the menu that Robert will prepare are:
- Fresh local oysters- one of our favorites!
- Smoked salmon, thick crème fraiche and herb confit
- Handmade harvest tapenade
- Forest mushroom spread
- Chef Robert’s country bread
- Mom’s fish chowder – freshest fish, cream, butter and fine herbs OR Autumnal vegetables stewed in the style of Acadian fricot
- Roasted apple and wildflower honey caramel
Coffee, tea and local handcrafted cider and beer samples will also be available.
Shane and Robert will be joined by David Pendergast, another chef and entertainer from the Pendergast family. Together they will feed your belly with food and feed your soul with songs and stories.
A unique heritage evening that will delight the senses.
