Doug Kelly has been instrumental in preserving the heritage of Stratford, Prince Edward Island for many years.
Those who’ve worked with him on organizations like the Town of Stratford’s Heritage Committee, describe him as having a great passion for heritage and a unique ability to gather information and carry out research that connects us with people, places and events from our past.
Doug was instrumental in documenting the first Trans-Atlantic Flight from Tea Hill in 1930. His research and his vision were also essential to the execution of Stratford’s Roll of Honour Project.
Doug’s knowledge of the town has proven invaluable when naming streets in Stratford’s new developments. Doug’s input led to the naming of streets like Kelly Drive, Captain James Crescent, Squire Lane, Smallwood Drive, Swallow Drive and Goldsmith Drive.
Doug also played a key role in the publication of We will remember them: Stratford Heroes of the First World War, a book published in 2018 to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War. The book included photos and stories from a number of Stratford families whose ancestors had served in the First World War.
