Eddy Schwartz's exhibition, titled Yesterday, Today II, showcases his commitment to preserving local architectural history through art. Commencing in April 2018, Schwartz meticulously painted 36 portraits of Summerside’s unique buildings. But that was just the beginning. Driven by a profound love and respect for history and architecture, he has continued capturing the essence of Summerside's homes, churches, and other edifices.
The first volume of this series premiered at the Eptek Art & Culture Centre in 2018 and was subsequently featured in the book Yesterday, Today: A Portrait of Summerside in 2019. Yesterday, Today II seamlessly continues this thematic exploration. Eddy Schwartz's canvases immortalize significant locations like the Regent and Crocketts’ Jewellery Store, as well as historic events like Hurricane Fiona. Particularly, the revered tree at the corner of Spring and Convent is now preserved in the painting titled Spring 143.
Throughout the exhibition, Eddy Schwartz generously made himself available to various school groups and visitors, providing them with insights into his passion for preserving the architectural history of Summerside through his art. For his work with the “Yesterday, Today II” exhibition, Eddy Schwartz is being honoured with the Architectural Conservation Project of the Year Award.
