Geraldine Peters was still a teenager when she began to collect family records.
Her interest in family genealogy continued to grow and in the early 1980s she started to compile more records through the provincial archives and conversations with family members. Her dedication to genealogy has only continued to grow.
Geraldine keeps a large personal file system of family history, with a strong focus on Island Mi'kmaq families. This includes birth and death records, records of Indigenous sport and cultural events and special news articles that pertain to Indigenous culture and heritage. Her knowledge, extensive personal archives and dedication to her work has been described as second to none.
Geraldine, who grew up in Digby, Nova Scotia and moved to the Island in the late 1970s, is a go-to person for members of the Island’s Indigenous community for all things genealogical. If Geraldine doesn't have a particular file or record, she is determined to find it. For many years now, she has dedicated countless hours to researching personal family trees for many individuals in both Canada and the United States.
