Leland Currie is a custodian of Lot 7's rich heritage and has made a massive contribution to preserving Lot 7’s past through his book Early Settlers of Lot 7 Prince Edward Island. This comprehensive 266-page publication not only captures a wealth of valuable information about the township’s early history but also shares the backgrounds of its founding families.
Leland's book, presented in an engaging format, incorporates numerous photographs of buildings, individuals, families, historical documents, and early manuscript maps, each meticulously annotated and analyzed. In making this wealth of historical knowledge accessible to present-day Islanders, he ensures that it reaches a wider audience and is easily accessible to future researchers. Of course, Leland’s contribution to Island heritage does not stop with the publishing of Early Settlers of Lot 7. Leland is in the process of donating his research library to the Public Archives and Records Office and donating his book collection to the Alberton Museum.
Furthermore, he has generously contributed one of his earlier publications, Century of Immigration: Marriage and Death Records from Prince Edward Island Newspapers, 1780-1900, to the genealogical website peiancestry.com, with plans for it to be available online soon.
These initiatives underscore Leland’s relentless efforts to safeguard and disseminate Island heritage, earning him a Heritage Recognition Award.
